On this day every year, I’m reminded of my roots.I joined the Air Force at 19 because I had no direction in life.Over the years, I didn’t find myself overly passionate about what I do…I always joke and tell friends - how do you feel passionate about flying a drone from the ground, just clicking your console buttons?Add on the long hours on station just waiting for something to happen on the ground we are focusing on through the camera on the drone. But I always gave my absolute best at work because I’m always reminded of my mission and my role in a well-oiled system. And in the years since I’ve left, I’ve started to appreciate how a well-oiled system has kept our armed forces at a tip top level with high discipline, confident to be called upon any moment. This is only possible with the people. And we should celebrate the men and women in uniform who give their best everyday.Happy SAF Day!

I feel that this is a critical lesson not just for those in uniform but for anyone in any field. Often, the significance of our work isn't about the immediate task—it’s about how these tasks accumulate into a larger picture, how they keep the gears of a bigger machine smoothly running.

Before military aviators go fly there is intense mission planning beforehand. In this planning, the pilots and crews 'walk through' the sortie imagining every phase from take-off to landing. They'll talk through the altitudes, air speeds, threats, obstacles, veracity of maneuvers, and ferocity of the fight (need there be one). Depending on the mission set, this is done over and over and over again, until the images are engrained in their memory. Meticulous rehearsal, fastidious repetition, and vivid vision are given creed to the life of those who put nothing between them but steel and sky. You, too, should act in such a way no matter what feat you're trying to perform. Sports? Practice that three-point shot for every angle until you can do it with your eyes closed. Writing? Type the words until the message flows like honey. Edit, and type again. Be meticulous in your business, in your relationships, and in your life. Let who you want to be become engrained in your memory so that your vision is always on who you want to be. #hardtokeephappy #personalgrowth #vision

Although it is slowly being replaced, this aircraft is the backbone of the USAF air refueling fleet.First flying in 1956 and starting service in 1957, the last one went into service in 1965.Currently powered by the CFM-56 turbofan, it can carry and transfer up to 200,000 pounds of fuel as well as carry up to 83,000 pounds of cargo. As an aerial tanker, it can employ both the boom and receptacle and probe and drogue techniques. It’s swept wing design makes it prone to Dutch roll, so it also has a stability augmentation system. There are or have been multiple variants performing missions such as aerial command post, reconnaissance, and test.At about $75M per aircraft in 2023 dollars, it was a bargain!#airrefueling #sweptwing#turbofans#usaftankers #aviationhistory #aviationhistoryanddoodles

#SNSinstitutions #SNSdesignthinkers #Designthinking Aircraft Propellers : Aircraft propellers are devices consisting of blades that rotate to provide thrust for an aircraft. They convert engine power into a forward-moving force by pushing air backward. Propellers can be found on various types of aircraft, including small general aviation planes, commercial airliners, and military aircraft. They come in different designs and configurations, such as fixed-pitch or variable-pitch, and are essential components in many aircraft propulsion systems.

The U.S. Air Force has released a clue about the size of the future family of Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA). A new RFI released to industry says the desired thrust range is between 3,000-8,000-lb.-thrust. Among off-the-shelf options, that range spans engines from the Williams FJ44 to the Rolls-Royce AE3007, with options in between including the PWC300 & 500 and Honeywell TFE731. That roughly brackets the size of a single-engined, subsonic CCA somewhere between a Boeing MQ-28 Ghost Bat (~2,000lb-thrust) and a Boeing MQ-25 Stingray (16,000lb-thrust), although the thrust requirement depends on several variables, including requirements for takeoff roll distance, maximum speed and wing area. The CCA will be a family of aircraft developed in several increments, with the first scheduled to enter service by the end of the decade. https://lnkd.in/edEnrKMx
